to some Betty is synonymous with Betty Crocker…
to me Betty is:
a petite feisty red-head that happens to be the mom of my friend, Mary Ann
“….generous, hard-working, fiercely independent, fun and flirtatious. Grandma Betty could chase you around the house with a wooden spoon when you were sassy, teach you how to whip up the perfect mashed potatoes, then sing and dance an Irish jig into the wee hours with her Jameson’s. Her greatest joy was cooking for family and friends…”
A perfect description of Betty from Mary Ann's wedding toast to her daughter and son-in-law.
Being around Betty was a rare treat…while preparing some tasty feast for fortunate guests, she would always have time to sit with us at the card table with her decks of cards precisely placed in her designated spots. As we turned over certain cards she would amaze us with tidbits from our past and present and foretell our future which I warmly remember as “Betty’s reading of the cards”…
Typed in a loving letter from Betty to Mary Ann in 1974, these Thanksgiving recipes are true treasures from this diva duo!
